Dangerous Intersections encourages churches to keep eyes on the road
Each year, State Farm Insurance publishes the eleven most dangerous traffic intersections in America. Pastors Jay Dennis and Jim Henry have followed suit, naming the eleven most dangerous intersections for churches to navigate today in their new book, Dangerous Intersections (Broadman & Holman, June 2004).
These crucial church crossroad concepts include "Worship and Missing God," "Change and Stagnation," "Family-Sensitive and Family-Damaging," "Sound Doctrine and Spiritual Fads," and "Jesus Leadership and Corporate Models" among others.
"We believe this is the most opportune time ever for world impact with the gospel," the authors write. "Nothing could be further from the truth than to suggest that the world is not interested in spiritual things…we want to share specific principles that will help any church become compelling."
To do this, Dangerous Intersections compares church issues with driving issues, using "red-light running," "failure to yield," "tailgating," "speeding," and "inattentiveness" as symptoms that point to a church's need for self-examination. The authors also combine their experience with insights from other writers like Leonard Sweet, Richard Foster, Dan Kimball, and Philip Yancey.
