B&H Publishing Group Titles Offer Groundbreaking New Bookcasting Feature for Apps
NASHVILLE, Tenn., 9/17/2012 – B&H Publishing Group and LifeWay Digital have developed a new bookcasting feature for Apple apps that is believed to be the first in Christian publishing to offer a fully social reading experience.
Moving a step beyond previous book study apps that allowed multiple users to read the same content together from separate sources at the same time, this new technology allows a group leader to manipulate the content from one device while her actions are synchronized and shown in real time on another. This new level of bookcasting capability will benefit professor/student interaction, book clubs, and more.
“Reading was originally something people did together in public—one person would read from a scroll while others listened closely,” said Aaron Linne, director of B&H Technology. “This new application brings the intimacy of that method into the digital age. Imagine a teacher using the app in his classroom, highlighting key text that is simultaneously highlighted on a student’s device. That’s where this is going.”
The bookcasting feature is a free update to existing B&H/LifeWay Digital apps and is readily available for use with four brand new releases: The Subversive Kingdom by Ed Stetzer, Letting Go of Perfect by women’s author Amy E. Spiegel, Tribal Church by Steve Stroope with Kurt Bruner, and The Essence of the Old Testament edited by Ed Hindson and Gary Yates. More titles will follow soon.
The new feature allows one user to share the book text that is on their screen with other users on the same wifi connection. This ensures that the group reading together is looking at the exact same text during discussions about the book. Users can try this feature for free by using the sample chapters available in the apps.
