“Their stories are inspirational – in life and even death.”

As an embedded Fox News correspondent during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Oliver North witnessed first hand the courage and spirit of the men and women of America’s armed forces.

North crafts an intensely personal foreword in A Greater Freedom: Stories of Faith from Operation Iraqi Freedom, a moving tribute to those who put their lives on the line for one another, as well as the Iraqi people.  Told by Sara Horn, whose reporting took her aboard the USS Harry S. Truman during the height of the conflict, the stories offer a rare glimpse into the spiritual side of the battlefield.

Combined with full-color photos taken from the frontlines, aboard aircraft carriers, preparing for missions, and in quiet times of personal reflection, A Greater Freedom allows others to see firsthand the miracles in the midst of service to one’s country.

Of the service men and women who are also in service to Christ, North says, “They’ve witnessed God’s protection in ways large and small – not only for the Americans, but for the Iraqis as well – and have understood God’s higher reasons for keeping safe those who will glorify Him and praise His name.  They perform their jobs with the knowledge of where they’re going, beyond the   battlefield.  This unique peace comes only through their dependence on God, through faith in Jesus Christ.”

A photo documentary, as well as a collected saga of patriotism and faith, writer Sara Horn along with photographer Jim Veneman made two trips to the Middle East – first aboard the USS Truman and again to Baghdad.

Veneman’s camera captures dramatic scenery that ranges from a combat flight to worship services to a poignant video reunion of parent and child.

Horn crafts each soldier’s story into testimonies of spiritual fortitude that run the gamut of human emotions – from coping with the stress of conflict to thoughts of home – that culminate in the knowledge that there is a greater freedom known to those who have liberation in Christ.
