Squat, the first novel by award-winning author and New York inner city pastor Taylor Field, jumped up to #2 on the Technorati Popular Books chart in September, joining a Top Ten list that included Blue Like Jazz, Debunking 9/11 Myths, and the controversial Oprah book club pick, A Million Little Pieces.

Field's book tells the engrossing story of a homeless man in the late 1980s who lives in one of the abandoned New York City buildings known as "squats." While outsiders might assume he has nothing to show for his life, Squat tells us something more about the value of every person.

Technorati daily tracks popular blog topics, and its book chart ranks "the books people are talking about right now, ordered by new links to Amazon.com in the last 48 hours."

The Curmudgeon’s Rant:
“Every now and again, I come across a book that that smacks me upside the heart and Squat, by Taylor Field, really did.”

Camy’s Loft:
“This is one of the most unique books I’ve read this year…[Squat] is a very interesting novel that will open readers’ eyes to the realities of the homeless. More importantly, it shapes the attitudes and motivations of Christians who’d like to help.”

Georgian D:
“As a reader, you can’t help but be touched by the reality of Squat. The book does a great job illuminating a segment of society that many people would rather overlook.”

Equal Excitement:
“What I like most, and what spoke to me most, was the author’s ability to make me identify with all of these people … [Squat] will stir you to realize that you are part “Squid” and part “Bonehead” without preaching at you.”

Wren Reviews:
Pastor Field has written a compelling book. It opened my eyes even more to the hopelessness of the homeless and made a definite impact on my life.

The Savvy Christian Writer:
Squat is a compassionate but realistic view of life lived by society’s throw-aways, the homeless… Buy and read Squat. You won’t look at a homeless person in the same way, ever again.”

The Bedford Review:
“...one of the best Christian novels of the year.”

Christy Lockstein:
“Field writes almost cinematically; you can see the book unfolding like a movie in your mind.”

OCD-Man:
“I flipped to the first page to get a feel for the story and before I knew it I was sucked into the New York street life . . . It is now my new favorite novel. I loved it and couldn’t put it down. “

The Bookshelf Review:
Squat is a wonderful entry into the world of Christian fiction – edgy, literary, and striking in a way few faith novels are these days.
