B&H Releases Updated, Expanded Edition of Acclaimed John Piper Book

NASHVILLE, Tenn., 2/1/2013 – B&H Publishing Group has just released the updated and expanded edition of best-selling author John Piper’s Brothers, We Are Not Professionals. First published in 2002 and named among Preaching Magazine’s “10 Best Books Every Preacher Should Read,” it now includes six new chapters that continue Piper’s plea with fellow pastors to abandon the professionalization of the pastorate and pursue the prophetic call of the Bible for radical ministry.
“Nothing has happened in the last ten years to make me think this book is less needed. In fact, instead of going away, the pressure to ‘professionalize’ the pastorate has morphed and strengthened,” Piper explains in the preface to the new edition.
Among the new chapters, Piper addresses theology (“Brothers, God Does Make Much of Us,” “Brothers, God Is the Gospel”), the pursuit of being a better preacher (“Brothers, Be Bible-Oriented—Not Entertainment-Oriented—Preachers,” “Brothers, Pursue the Tone of the Text”), family and sanctification (“Brothers, Help Them Act the Miracle”), and personal health (“Brothers, Bodily Training Is of Some Value”).
