B&H to Publish Embracing Obscurity by Anonymous Author on Oct. 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn., 8/21/2012 – Despite the common standard of seeking and developing authors with a significant speaking platform or social media following, B&H Publishing Group will release Embracing Obscurity: Becoming Nothing in Light of God’s Everything by an anonymous writer on October 1, 2012.

Anonymous is reportedly a well-established author whose identity is known only by a few B&H editors and executives. He or she communicates with others in the company via a specially created email address, for example, in an effort to put the Embracing Obscurity message into practice.

“This book
is a call to stop imitating the world’s formula for success, and instead follow the model of our Humble King,” Anonymous writes in a letter sent out with advance review copies of Embracing Obscurity. “I couldn’t think of any way to reconcile that message while simultaneously promoting myself, so I’ve chosen to take up the challenge of embracing my own obscurity.”
Written about living and dying in simplicity as one of seven billion people on earth today, the book contends that true success, as modeled by Jesus, starts with humility, service, sacrifice, and surrender. Anonymous aims to “awaken the Church to the unsurpassed peace and pleasure of becoming nothing in light of God’s everything.”
Authors endorsing Embracing Obscurity include Vicki Courtney (“This book should be on every Christian’s nightstand—permanently”) and JD Greear (“helped me marvel again at the Christ who embraced obscurity for us”).
