Gun Lap Author Q&A

Andy Whisenant | May 7th

Why did you write this book?

I got old and wanted to help other guys who were also getting old.

For whom did you write this book?

Men who are in their fifties and sixties and even older will be encouraged by what the good and hopeful things I’ve written about these years.

Talk about the title of this book. What is a gun lap?

Why does the manner in which we run our gun lap matter? When the lead runner starts his final lap in a long-distance race, the starter fires his pistol for the second time. This signals the start of the gun lap—the last chance to leave it all out on the track.

How should men use the free time that their gun lap has granted them? How is this different from what the world says about enjoying retirement?

This is a great time to invest the extra time they will likely have to do things that count…including renewing their covenant love for their wife.

Why is this book helpful even for men who aren’t yet on their gun lap?

To be prepared is half the victory.” – Miguel de Cervantes.

How does your book equip readers to stay in the race with purpose?

Through stories and examples of men their age…it’s news they can use.

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

Direction and encouragement during a challenging season in a man’s life.
